I was born in San Bernardino, California, and raised throughout Southern California in places that taught me how to endure before I understood what that meant. I am of Mexican, Central American, and Native ancestry, but that label only scratches the surface. My identity is a mosaic of inheritance and experience, stitched together by memory, conflict, and contradiction.
I didn't set out to become an artist. My early language was the body: its mechanics, its pain, its limits. I studied anatomy, kinesiology, and physical therapy because I believed in healing, even if I didn't always know what needed to be healed. Then, during a period of recovery, I found art by accident — tracing a portrait of my great-grandfather in charcoal on a scrap of notebook paper. It felt like something had been waiting in me all along.
My work explores the human condition — sometimes gently, sometimes violently — through the lenses of culture, mental health, sexuality, and internal conflict. What matters to me is honesty: that what I create tells the truth, even if it's uncomfortable.
